Feeding Made Simple - Flipbook - Page 39
Flow is Too
Slow
Too slow is more subtle
—but just as important.
Signs I look for:
→ Long feeds (over 30 minutes)
→ Nipple collapsing on the bottle
→ Immediate frustration after latch
→ Infants refusing the bottle
→ Infant falling asleep without 昀椀nishing
When parents get stuck using a smaller
nipple with a slower 昀氀ow, they often say:
“My baby is hungry all the time but refuses
the bottle.”
In many cases, it’s simply because getting
milk requires too much e昀昀ort, and not
enough is coming out. When the 昀氀ow is
too slow, babies can tire out, lose interest,
or become frustrated before they’ve had a
full feed.
